Jubileebook 75 jaar
The jubilee book ‘Concertkoor Haarlem, Seventy-five years of a unique sound’ was published in February 2022. Author is Willem Jan Cevaal, musicologist, organist and chairman of the Andriessen/De Klerk Foundation, https://www.andriessendeklerkstichting.nl.
The book describes the rich history of the choir, from its establishment after the war as a Catholic choir in the compartmentalised era and its growth into the rejuvenated quality choir of today. It contains many historical photos and interesting background information with a list of all concerts with contributors from 1946 onwards at the back.
The book also describes the choir’s lesser-known past history that began with Nico Andriessen in 1894. It came full circle when his famous grandson Louis Andriessen attended the performance of his first composition for organ, ‘The Divine Routine’ performed by Gonny van der Maten with the extended Andriessen family in 2017. Other famous conductors of the pre-war era include Hubert Cuypers and Eduard van Beinum, with whom the young De Klerk had already worked.
This interesting book can be ordered for €17.50 at secretariaat [at] concertkoorhaarlem.nl.
